I think I smell the flowers, Oh I want to believe that so much

It is muddy and gross in New England this time of year.

It is brown, everywhere, believe me there is NO green anywhere, maybe in the Pine trees and even that is not very pretty right now.

So I am going to enjoy these beautiful tulip pictures and dream of Spring, getting outside

watching the first buds appear and the grass starting to turn green

I can't wait, it's been a long cold, snowy, icy winter

In New England we have a saying:

"If you don't like the weather just wait a few minutes"

Right now ~ it is soooooo cold here, and it is snowing lightly right now, but that could change in the blink of an eye!

We shovel, we salt, we have snoblowers, we have plows on our trucks, we have snow tires, and snow brushes in all our cars, we keep blankets, gloves and scarfs in our trunks and some keep shovels in their trunks. We have remote starters to get our cars warm before we have to head off into the wintery blizzards.

All of us who live in cold, snowy climates know what I'm talking about, those we don't, your lucky, in my opinion. I don't like the cold long winters. After Christmas I look forward to Spring, and I can't wait for the beautiful Spring weather.

Lots of homes in New England have fireplaces, we have two.

They bring such comfort and warmth to a room. We make our fireplaces a focal part of the room, we decorate them and show them off, after-all they do take care of us, keeping us toasty warm

A beautiful green color on the woodwork is the focal point of this fireplace

Thie one is Ochre Yellow, I love the woodwork around this fireplace
I wonder what is behind those doors

A log cabin, love the bench in front of the fireplace,

beautiful stone

A cooking fireplace, with a crane for making soup,

and a beautiful farm table

This room is full of beautiful things that focus around the fireplace

love this chaise, I could sit here, read a book, and take a nap

This fireplace looks like it might belong in a very old, old home, oh such character

Again,, they have made the fireplace the focal point of this room,

RIP December 1, 1993

Today I remember my brother as I do everyday,

16 years ago today

my brother Ricky passed away

at the young age of 37

I never got to say Good-Bye

or to tell him how much

I Loved him

and for that

I look up to Heaven every day

and tell him

"I Love you & Miss you"

I will do that forever until we meet again

December 1, 1993 - December 1, 2009

I am home in Heaven, dear ones;

Oh, so happy and so bright!
There is perfect joy and beauty
In this everlasting light.
All the pain and grief is over,
Every restless tossing passed;
I am now at peace forever,
Safely home in Heaven at last.

I wanted to share this, for those who haven't seen this

this is from Country Living

Seems easy enough to do and very reasonable

I'm going to try this myself

Written by Jennifer Rizzo

STEP 1: Wash and tumble dry a natural-colored canvas drop cloth--ours measured six by nine feet
($8.44; hardwareworld.com)--a few times to soften the fabric.

STEP 2: Lay the cloth flat. Run a strip of 1/4-inch grout tape down the middle of the fabric widthwise. Then run two additional pieces of tape on each side of the first, spacing them 1/4 inch apart (you'll have five strips total).

STEP 3: Squirt some red fabric paint ($1.89 for two ounces; createforless.com) onto a paper plate and dab a brush in it, off-loading any extra paint onto a paper towel. Working in short strokes, lightly brush the paint on the cloth between the taped areas to catch the grain of the canvas.

STEP 4: Continue to layer the pigment until it appears as dark as desired. Remove the tape once the paint has dried according to the package instructions.

White dishes

I have a love of white dishes, they go with anything, you can dress them up for

a holiday, a party, a theme and they can be used in everyday dinning.

I have to confess, I only use my white dishes at Christmas. I decorate the table

in gold, reds or green, with fresh pine and pinecones.

I have 3 sets of complete dishes, that I have collected.

I have a complete set of old brown transferware, that I use at Thanksgiving.

And, you must believe me, when I tell you that I got the whole set for FREE,

from a genetleman that didn't want them any more, his wife had passed away,

and they were her dishes, so he was glad to see that they went to a good home.

MINE

I'll post about them on another day.

If you don't own a set of White dishes, you can buy a reasonable set, you won't

be disappointed.

You can match new pieces with old pieces

We will be lighting some candles at our house today, It's my BIRTHDAY!

When we have a birthday at our house, the birthday person gets to pick out where they want to go out to eat, and everyone has to agree.

Beeswax candles, smell so yummy!

My favorite scents are clove, cinnamon, hearth, pine, beeswax
I burn scented candles all the time. I have candles all over the house

I sell Real Estate, when I do an Open House, the smell of a candle is always
so welcomed by guests coming in

I leave a window candle in my upstairs window, which is always lite,
I never turn it off, it stays lit 24/7
It's my memory candle in honor of my mom and my brother

Pine cones are everywhere in my yard, I have such an abundance every year

I use them to decorate with. I am always looking for new and creative ways to use them.

Bittersweet~time to pick

In the fall, I cut lots of it for my house inside and out

Bittersweet is very invasive, it takes over everything.

All Hallow's Eve

In old England cakes were made for the wandering souls, and people went "a' soulin'" for these "soul cakes." Halloween, a time of magic, also became a day of divination, with a host of magical beliefs: for instance, if persons hold a mirror on Halloween and walk backwards down the stairs to the basement, the face that appears in the mirror will be their next lover.

They add such character to a room!

I don't have many myself, so I borrowed these to show you

I have handpainted quite a few signs, on old worn wood to

replicate the old signs

I sold almost all of them, when I had my shop

I have a collection of old wood, just waiting for me to start

painting again!

Frightful Friday

Halloween is fast approaching, I found some awesome ideas to re-create for your home, or your Halloween party!!

A mini re-creation, use a wooden fence or a metal fence, spanish moss on the bottom, mini hay-bales,

mini pumpkins and gourds, some cornstalks some mini animals, and make the "Happy Halloween" sign using scrapbook letters, most items can be purchasd at a local craft store

Make these for your steps, using 1/4" plywood, paint the wood white, print a font from your computer print out, cut as a stencil, and stencil on the plywood, or if you have stencils on hand, stencil , attach the boards with mini nails or a strong tape

Vintage birdcages, used as a vignEtte, place a feathered crow on top, some branches from outside as a back drop, spanish moss in and around the cages, spider webs and some plastic spiders and you have an instant scene

In the bathroom, buy some plastic fangs place them in a glass near the sink with a toothbrush, they will be wondering who FORGOT THEIR TEETH !!!!

An instant message, using index cards, stencil, hand draw or print from the computer words to

re-create a message place inside glass cloches, using old prints from the computer or from an old book, place behind the glass cloches

White cotton kitchen towels, using clip-art, you can transfer these onto the towels, iron them on and you have wonderful images for Halloween. I have some clip-art at the bottom of this post, that you can right click and save to you computer. If you need a tutorial on how to do this, let me know and I will post one on my blog

Create an area of your house with cobwebs, these vintage lamps, have been painted black, the material has been removed from the metal, showing a bare boned lamp, nice idea to create ambience

I especially LOVE this!

Notice the skelton, residing on the bed, the chandelier covered in cobwebs and the black crow perching on the bed. What a great idea

If you don't have a white couch, to get the look, cover your couch in white sheets

Stencil a sign "The Witch's Inn"

you can use an old frame, print this out on your computer, or stencil it

If you can't find a white pumpkin, paint one white, using acrylic paint, or spray paint, hand paint something on it, and place a funky hat on top

Feel free to use this clip-art skelton, for your creative ideas.

Save to your compter, and print out

This would be nice printed out on sepia toned paper, and put in an old frame.

You can coffee stain your computer paper first, let it dry, I am impatient so I put the paper in the

microwave to dry, just a few seconds at a time, check the paper, if it isn't dry, do it again for a few seconds more, until it is dry Make sure your paper is completely dry before putting it into your printer

Put the paper in your printer, and print.

Another clip-art to use, same thing, put in a black frame or use for another project

Save this to you computer, print them, cut them out, and hang them from fishing wire in your windows

This is an umbrella, that has the material re-moved, hung up-side down from the ceiling, add spider webs, mini plastic spiders, and battery operated lanterns. I think this would look especially neat on a front porch

You can do so many neat things with these wonderful glass cloche's

Leave them empty, fill them, play with them. love them, collect them, look

at them, share them, display them, give them a theme, I could go on and on

Some ideas I have found on the internet to share with you, enjoy these pictures

Use in the bathroom, this one is filled with soap and an antique curling iron

created and I am so inspired and in awe.

Taking a tea saucer that no longer has a companion tea cup and putting a bar of soap tied with a bow, great idea for a gift

Adorable idea using sweaters, that have been washed and shrunk and hung on the crib, you could also use this idea for the windows

This one struck me when I realized my hose was just lying on the ground, take a bucket and wrap your hose around it, too cute

Linen and old sacks, cross stitch a saying or name maybe initials,

cross stitching is quite simple to do

Found this the other day while surfing, I adore old books, this idea is so creative and a great way way to show-off your creative side

Another idea for old books, especially the books where the covers maybe are missing or completely destroyed, tie with some twine and showcase them

This is such a cute bag, seems easy enough to make,

or is it!!!

A tin can, punched with a design, candle inside and hung from a tree

Thought this was quite adorable and useful, my daughter could use one of these in her room, a picture frame with chicken wire fastened to the back

I have to make one of these for myself,

using a frame put cork inside the frame

and paint it WHITE

And, this creative lady, used a tee shirt and

cut it up to make this adorable scarf

~NO sewing involved~

Love this idea for the stairs, paint your stairs color of your choice,

trim out for the middle color when dry stencil some numbers of letters

Also the front rooms of my house, which have had stuff stored in them for way to long, we have to get the front rooms emptied out, so we can insulate and redo these rooms, we have a pool table and lots of fun stuff to go in these rooms.

I can't wait until there done

I don't think the rest of the family can wait for me to clean them out either.

I have been getting ready for this yard sale for 3 weeks.

I have scoured the house for things I don't use

I am somewhat of a perfectionist,

I have to have all the stuff near perfect, clean and all priced and set up.

I have been fortunate because I can use the front rooms for the yard sale items, and I can

have the rooms all set up

The big furniture items are on my front porch, so I can have my boys carry these things onto the

front lawn.

I love yard sales myself, I tend to buy too many things.

I quess you could call me a YARD SALE JUNKIE

I'm sure there are others out there like that too!!!!!

You know who I'm talking about

With all that said, wish me luck this weekend.

I'm going to use the money to pay for the insulation for my front rooms

SHADES OF FALL

Living in New England.

The fall is such a beautiful time of year.

My favorite by far, the weather is perfect, the colors are awesome.

The leaves start to change color, slow enough that we can enjoy

the beautiful colors

Homes start to change their decorations, pumpkins come out

Crows are starting to show up on fences

Corn stalks, fall festivals, craft fairs

I can feel it in the air

I am going to be on the lookout for a dresser like this that I can paint white and use in my

master bathroom!

Dresser Re-done

My first posting on an old dresser that I re-finished

I know you don't know this, but I love to paint, I have been painting in one form or another since I was a little girl

This all wood dresser was a freebie that I acquired along with many other pieces,

After storing the furniture for a couple of months I decided that this piece

was going to be used in my walk-in closet to replace the ~~broken~~ Lowe's piece that I

originally put in the closet when we moved in the house, now the drawers don't even work

I had the paint in my house, it was never opend it is

Behr Premium Plus Cottage White

How strange was this, I had this can of paint in my basement, the painter must have

bought this paint and never used it, I never knew it was there

I didn't have a good paint brush on hand, but I had some new sponge brushes, and I was

so impatient to get this painted that I went ahead and used the sponge brushes, I don't think I would

recommend using the sponge brushes if you were going to put you piece of furniture in your room,

but I was just to impatient to wait another day to go and buy a new paint brush

I also had a 1/2 can of primer

I sanded the dresser with sand paper,

wiped it with a cloth to remove all the dust

Primed

and then painted, it took 2 coats

The next day I sprayed the dresser with a can of clear acrylic sealer that I also

had in the house

You will notice in some of the pictures that it looks spotty, that is because the sealer was not

completely dry when I took the pictures

Sealer was still wet when I took this picture

I have a collection ranging from very small to quite large ones

Vintage scale in white on an old very large bread board with

some of the old flour imbeded in the board,

old bread boards have such stories to tell

Old jugs, I love to collect old jugs

some have writing on them, some have numbers, letters, bird motifs, some still have the corks in them.

These are sitting in a display again on an old bread board

My next post is on a piece of furniture that I did over

What a great idea!

Save the sand from the beaches you visit and label them in

old glass jars

This is not my picture, but it is quite lovely and

I wanted to share this great idea

Beautiful sunsets on the beaches of Cape Cod
After Labor Day weekend they become quite empty and somewhat lonely looking

as if the sand and the waves say where has eveyone gone

we had such fun this summer

come back next year and we'll do it all over again!

Labor Day Weekend, the official end of summer in New England,
I think I'm going to miss summer, it's been peaceful, relaxing, somewhat quite,
my kids were busy doing their own things.
School has started, my daugher is in the 11th grade, a big year for her and her friends,
she drives herself to school now, I can sleep a little bit later.
the weather is getting cooler, nights are very cool now, we don't need our air-conditioner on
maby just a low fan in the room.
